Privacy Notice
Effective date: August 9, 2026
This is a beta privacy notice. We are building the service carefully, with data minimization and clear choices in mind. Please do not submit highly sensitive personal, financial, medical, or other confidential information in chats.
1. What this notice covers
This notice describes how Butcher Assistant (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our closed-beta product, including its chat-based food and butcher-assistance features. It does not change any rights you may have under applicable law.
2. Information we collect
To provide and operate the beta, we collect:
- Phone number. We require a phone number for account access, verification, and beta communications.
- City and state. We require your city and state to tailor responses and understand the regions served by the beta.
- Chat content. We collect the questions, messages, and information you choose to include in chats, along with the responses generated for you.
- Service and technical information. This may include account identifiers, timestamps, device or browser information, IP address, logs, and information needed to secure, diagnose, and improve the service.
- Communications. If you contact us, we collect the message and related contact details you provide.
3. How we use information
We use information to provide the service; authenticate and support you; personalize region-relevant assistance; maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the beta; understand usage; detect misuse; comply with legal obligations; and improve our products. We may review chat and service data in limited circumstances for support, safety, quality assurance, and improvement.
4. AI and third-party processing
To generate or research responses, chat prompts and related context may be processed by third-party AI providers, including Google Gemini and Perplexity. Those providers process information under their applicable terms and privacy practices. We send only the information reasonably needed for the requested feature, but you should avoid entering sensitive personal information into chats.
We may also use service providers for hosting, authentication, communications, analytics, security, and operational support. Providers may handle information only as needed to perform services for us or as otherwise required by law.
5. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information to our service providers, including the AI providers described above; when required by law or a valid legal process; to protect people, our rights, or the security of the service; or in connection with a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, or financing. We may use and share aggregated or de-identified information where permitted by law.
6. Retention
We retain phone number, city/state, chat content, and operational logs for as long as reasonably necessary to run the beta, provide support, maintain security, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and improve the service. Beta retention periods may change as the service matures. We aim to limit retention to what is reasonably needed for these purposes.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, such as access controls, encryption where appropriate, logging, and secure service-provider practices. No internet service or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your choices and requests
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to applicable law and legitimate operational, security, and legal needs. Self-service account deletion and data export are not yet available during the closed beta. We will evaluate requests case by case and may need to verify your identity before responding.
9. Children
The beta is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can review the issue.
10. Food safety and AI limitations
The service provides general informational assistance, not professional food-safety, medical, veterinary, legal, or regulatory advice. AI-generated responses can be incomplete or incorrect. You are responsible for using appropriate judgment and following current guidance from qualified professionals and applicable local, state, and federal authorities. Do not rely on the service for emergency or time-sensitive food-safety decisions.
11. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as the beta evolves. We will post the revised version here and update its effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the service or by another reasonable method.
